25 Arunachal police personnel arrested amid war on drugs; 2 fired

ITANAGAR: Advocating a drugs-free society, Arunachal Pradesh Home Minister Bamang Felix has stated that the key mission of his department is to protect future generations from drug addiction.

This comes amid the Arunachal police's has waging of an all-out war against drugs. During this period, 86 FIRs have been filed, while 143 people arrested within one month. As many as 25 police personnel have also been arrested while 2 have been dismissed from their jobs.

Felix informed that 800 grams of brown sugar, 207 kilos of marijuana, 1.8 kilos of opium, and 1.2 kilos of heroin have been seized during this period.

Rs. 1,23,830 worth of cash has also been recovered from various dealers between April 21 to June 6 of 2021.

A7.32 pistol with 7 live rounds without a license, 12 bore SBBL gun with 18 live rounds, a 9mm pistol, 3 AK live ammunition, and a Chinese hand grenade have also been recovered from the drug peddlers.

Earlier, Arunachal Pradesh chief minister Pema Khandu had proclaimed that the 'drugs menace' is more dangerous than terrorism.

The CM has given a clarion call to make Arunachal a drug-free state by 2022 and the Director-General of Police (DGP) had formed teams across the state to bring drug dealers to task.

Khandu has also warned Government employees and police personals involved in drug consumption and peddling.

Khandu has set a deadline of June 31 for the Government employees to come forward and declare their addiction to drugs; treatment in rehabilitation will be provided by the Government.

Those employees who are drug consumers and do not report their addiction before 31 June will be terminated if found involved in the drug menace.
