Under the Jal Jeevan Mission, Union minister for Jal Shakti Gajendra Singh Sekhawat has approved Rs. 465 crore for the seven states as performance incentive.

Despite the pandemic of COVID-19 and the resulting lockdowns and disruptions, the rapid implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission on the ground has set an example, with more than 3.16 million rural households receiving tap water connections during the financial year.

Presently, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Goa and Telangana have become ‘Har Ghar Jal’ States/ UT and every household in 55 districts and 85,000 villages of the country, have tap water supply.

Gujarat is one of the best-performing states in terms of implementing the Jal Jeevan Mission, which aims to ensure that every home has access to safe drinking water.

Despite being in hilly terrain and forest areas, the north eastern states have adopted JJM at a rapid and large scale.

Five northeast states have applied for a performance reward grant for the first time.

The ministry of Jal Shakti's emphasis on improving water supply through the Jal Jeevan Mission has yielded results. To speed up the implementation, Sekhawat held a number of review meetings and paid visits to northeast states.

As part of the ministry of Jal Shakti, the National Jal Jeevan Mission dispatched a multi-disciplinary team of experts to assist these states in better planning and execution. These northeast states have risen to the top of the success rankings under JJM.

The mission aims to provide household tap water connection to every rural home by 2024 to improve the quality of life and enhance ‘ease of living’ of people of the country.
