Arunachal: APCS officer arrested for irregularities in disbursement of land compensation

ITANAGAR: The Special Investigation Cell (SIC) of the Arunachal Pradesh police has arrested a senior APCS officer of the State Government in connection with a case involving alleged irregularities in the disbursement of land compensations for the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) broad gauge railway project between Murkongselek (in Assam's Jonai district) to Pasighat in East Siang district.

Tamiyo Tatak, who is currently serving as Joint Secretary (Research) for the Government of Arunachal Pradesh, was arrested from Pasighat amid the investigation.

This case concerns irregularities that occurred during the entire phase of land acquisition (land value determination and compensation distribution) for the construction of the ‘Ruksin-Pasighat' section of the broad gauge railway line from Murkongselek to Pasighat, said SP Hemant Tiwari.

He stated that Tatak was the Deputy Commissioner of the East Siang district when the compensation was paid out in 2017. He mentioned that the investigation into this case is still ongoing.

Chief minister Pema Khandu informed the State Assembly last month that the NFR project's Phase-1 cost about Rs 73 crore, including administrative costs, for just a seven-kilometer stretch of the planned railway line.

Khandu had also informed the House that he had personally reviewed the files and discovered that they had been altered. “I found a change in that file; approval was given for one issue, but the decision given was for another”, Khandu said.

Following the chief minister's disclosures, a case was filed at SIC (Vigilance) Police Station Itanagar on March 15 under sections 120B, 409, 468, and 471 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) read with Sec 13(1)(c)(d) and 13(2) of the PC (Prevention of Corruption) Act, 1988.
