ITANAGAR: All Nyishi Youth Association, a strong pressure group in Arunachal Pradesh, has opposed the extension of the ongoing lockdown in the Itanagar capital region for another week, saying that the lockdown has badly affected the daily wage earners.

"The government lacks a clear-cut policy that could benefit the daily wage earners, the part-time workers, students, and auto, taxi, Tempo and truck drivers who depend on daily-based work to meet their basic needs during the lockdown,” it said in a statement.

Small businessmen and women and contractors are also suffering huge losses, it further stated.

The state government on Friday extended the ongoing lockdown, which was supposed to end on 31 May, until 7 June, in view of the unchanged Covid-19 situation.

Talo Potom , the Deputy Commissioner of the Capital says that the lockdown is necessary due to the spiralling of COVID-19 cases in the second wave of the outbreak.

Meanwhile, the ANYA appealed to the government to ensure administration of anti-Covid vaccine to all the citizens of the state at the earliest.

Byabang Joram, President of the All Nyishi youth organization urged the Government to help the poor and needy people otherwise no one will support this extension of Lockdown from 31 May to 7 June.

Meanwhile, vendors have complained that the Lockdown has caused immense economic problems for their ilk.

A woman expressed her sentiment over the extension of Lockdown and said lockdown is good for rich and government job holders while it brings devastating effects for the poor like her who sell vegetables daily to earn their livelihood.

She said that her family is surviving on a diet of sooji (granulated wheat) during the lockdown period.

"What will the children eat? We don't have a job, nor anything else. How will we survive," she complained.
