Itanagar, October 13, 2019:

Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu has lauded the positive gesture of the residents of ten villages who opted for road construction instead of land compensation.

Villages of Arunachal, namely, Gette, Pugging, Likor, Palling, Singging, Angging, Zido, Ngaming, Mayung and Bishing fall within the proposed 150km Yingkiong to Bishing two-lane highway. This route is aimed to boost connectivity in these remote areas.

These villages have decided to support road connectivity and not to claim land compensation. In order to extend their support formally, delegates of these villages met Chief Minister Pema Khandu at Yingkiong, the headquarters of Upper Siang district on Saturday.

Khandu took to Twitter and wrote, “No to land compensation; yes to road! A delegate of 10 villages falling under proposed 150km Yingkiong to Bishing 2-lane highway gave me a joint village resolution not to claim land compensation for road construction. We have our example that needs to be followed! @Gen_VKSingh.”

The representatives handed over a memorandum to the CM informing him of the resolution adopted by the village residents.

Khandu said that survey work on the Yingkiong to Bishing two-lane highway project had been completed.

It may be mentioned that Bishing village is the last Indian village that is closest to the McMohan Line. It demarcates the boundary between China’s Tibet region and India’s Arunachal Pradesh.
