Arunachal issues restrictions on opening of shops in ICR; Details here

ITANAGAR: Arunachal government is moving forward for another lockdown after the administration for lockdown as the COVID positivity rate crossed 11 %.

The administration on Monday announced restrictions on the opening of shops along NH 415 due to the current COVID-19 scenario in the Itanagar capital region (ICR).

The shops along the highway will be allowed to open on alternate days (left side/right side) from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m., said the deputy commissioner of Capital Itanagar Talo Potom.

Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays will be allowed for shops on the left side of the highway from Hollongi to Banderdewa, while Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays will be allowed for shops on the right side of the highway from Hollongi to Banderdewa.

Meanwhile, all shops and other establishments shall remain closed on Sundays, and all shops and commercial establishments within the ICR shall shut down at 5 pm, the DC ordered.

Potom also informed that the state health task force issued a direction that lockdown should be imposed only if the COVID positivity rate is about 10 %. “Earlier, it was imposed after the positivity rate shot up above 5 percent,” he added.

“The state health task force also suggested for left-right alternate shops opening along NH 415, considering the prevailing COVID situation,” Potom said.

Moreover, the DC urged the shopkeepers and vendors to “proactively encourage customers to observe COVID-appropriate behaviour while selling products.”

On the other hand, night curfew and total ban on movement of individuals or vehicles under Section 144 CrPC r/w powers conferred under Section 34 (b) & (c) of the Disaster Management Act, 2005, except for exemptions granted, will come into effect from 5 am of Tuesday to 31 July within the geographical territory of the Itanagar region

Meanwhile, the state saw the largest number of COVID-19 cases in a single day with 566 fresh cases. 

Itanagar capital region reported the highest 138 cases, followed by 76 cases in West Kameng and 39 cases in Lohit.

The ICR also reported a high positivity rate of 11 %.
