Arunachal Leaders Choose Tirong Aboh's Wife, Chakat Aboh, as Consensus Candidate in Khonsa West Bye-Poll

Itanagar, September 29, 2019:

Five political parties of Arunachal Pradesh have chosen to support Tirong Aboh's wife, Chakat Aboh, in the ensuing bye polls.

The bye-poll was necessitated after Aboh, a sitting National People's Party (NPP) MLA was shot dead by suspected NSCN militants at Tirap district.

At a press conference held at Itanagar yesterday, the party leaders, including Chief Minister Pema Khandu, decided to unanimously support Aboh's widow, who will be contesting as an independent candidate.

Chakat Aboh, wife of National People’s Party candidate, Late Tirong Aboh, will contest as independent candidate from 56 Khonsa West assembly constituency of Arunachal Pradesh in the upcoming bye election.

It is to be mentioned here Late Tirong Aboh had held a number of important positions in Arunachal’s political scenario. He was also the sitting MLA and Former Minister

The press conference was attended by leaders of the five major political parties - Congress President Nabam Tuki, BJP president Tapir gao, General Secretary NPP Mutchu Mithi, President People's Party of Arunachal Kameng Ringu and President Janata Dal United Ruhi Tagung. All the five leaders voiced their support for the independent candidate for the 56-Khonsa West Constituency.

Eleven people, including sitting MLA Tirong Aboh and his son, were killed by militants in May this year, ahead of election results. Later, the results were in favor of Tirong Aboh. He had won the election by a large margin of votes.

CM Pema Khandu said that the investigation of the brutal killing had been handed over to the National Investigation agency (NIA) and culprits will be punished soon.

Nabam Tuki, former CM and current Congress President, said Tirong Aboh's wife should be elected unopposed as MLA as a tribute to the fallen leader.

Late Tirong Aboh was elected in 2014 as a People's Party MLA, and later joined the Congress and served as a Cabinet Minister in the Nabam Tuki-led government. He had later joined the National People's Party.
