Taku advocates issuing PRC, ST certificates to Deoris, Mishings and Sonowal Kacharis

In a recent development Former minister Bida Taku on Thursday fervently called upon the State Govt to issue permanent residential certificates (PRC) and scheduled tribe (ST) certificates. While the certificate issued to the Deoris, Mishings and Sonowal Kacharis and other settlers who have been residing in Lekang Assembly Constituency. While the following Constituency falls under Namsai district for over 6 decades.

It may also be notified that his appeal came barely a couple of days after the local residents of Lekang area registered a protest. While the activists blocked the national highway-52 near Dirak check gate. Also the activists for nearly six hours against the checking of local residents for Inner Line Permit (ILP) at Adinigroo under Piyong circle.

Reportedly, seven local residents of Lekang were asked for their ILPs at Adinigroo by security personnel and allegedly made them to pay a penalty of Rs 100 each despite showing proof of their residency in Lekang.

While coming in strong support of the tribes the former minister, while addressing a press conference at Arunachal Press Club, said the residents of Lekang A/C comprising of Deoris, Mishings and Sonowal Kacharis and others have been denied of their rights since long. He also added they they are denied of job opportunities and required ILPs whenever despite being residents of the area since ages,” Taku asserted.

Referring to documents obtained through RTI, Taku informed that a lot of official documents dating back to pre-Independence era prove that the tribes were already been settled in the area
