Disheartened over ‘poor’ investigation into the former finance secretary of the All East Siang District Students’ Union, Ojing Taying murder case by the Itanagar police and its alleged lackadaisical attitude, the All East Siang District Students’ Union (AESDSU) demanded the state Home Department to hand over the case to the CBI. In this regard, the union has served a seven-day ultimatum to the Govt.

AESDSU’s Yon Taki, chairman of late Ojing Taying Justice Demand Committee categorically said that the Police Department is doing nothing and on moral ground they should surrender the case and hand it over to the CBI. Its general secretary Tonong Darang said, AESDSU wants the case to be handed over to the CBI as the union has no faith in the investigation of police as they are taking more than the required time.

“Despite our repeated appeal even to Chief Minister and Police department to make speedy investigation into the case, and despite peaceful dharna and rally demanding justice for late Ojing Taying, nothing is being done from the Police and the Govt,” added Darang and president Oyin Yosung.

The union warned that if case is not handed over to CBI within 7 days time they will resort to bandh call and strike. “We have been repeatedly appealing the concerned authorities by giving time after time, but we are left with no option but to resort to forceful means of agitation,” the union lamented.

It claimed, only the girlfriend of late Ojing Taying’s friend was interrogated but she was released by police without making further investigation upon the angle of her connection with those murderers as through her the miscreants followed and attacked them in which late Ojing Taying was completely innocent. Father of late Ojing Taying, Rajen Taying also alleged negligence from the Police department.

When asked about Home department’s seriousness over the case, Home Minister Kumar Waii said that he has already instructed the police to make speedy investigation into the case while taking all call records of the area (place of occurrence) and also study the other angles. When asked whether the case will be handed over to CBI as demanded by the union, Waii said that SIT is investigating the case and if they surrender we will surely look for giving it to the premier probe agency.
