Torrential rains started taking tolls on public infrastructures, especially roads in this hilly state with unstable soil conditions.

Landslides triggered by heavy rainfall, being experienced since last Saturday, damaged roads in Anjaw affecting surface connectivity, thereby throwing normal life out of gear in the easternmost district bordering China. An official release on Thursday said that the all-important road connecting Hayuliang with district headquarters Hawai has been blocked after landslides hit the road in between Lautul and Kherang. It was, however, cleared by M/S Sushee Infra & Mining Pvt Ltd under NHIDCL on Wednesday.

While the block points at the 26 Hollong Nallah and Dhanbari Nallah were being cleared on Thursday, connectivity in bridge point over Moody Nallah at 21 Km which had collapsed on April 24 last has once again washed away by heavy spate of river flow, thus making it impossible to cross over. Anjaw Deputy Commissioner Mamata Riba, who was at Hayuliang Sub-Divisional HQ in connection with an orientation meeting of the HoDs on the Annual Development Agenda of the Govt, contacted the NHIDCL in-charge of the road and the BCC represented by OC, 116 (RCC) GREF seeking their assistance to clear the roads.

While thanking providences that no lives have been lost till now, the DC reiterated her call to maintain caution while calling upon all the citizens of the district to avoid travelling till the heavy downpour subsides because of recurrent landslides in unstable soil conditions.

DySP K Duggong, who visited the block points, is monitoring the ground situation with District Administration. In remote Kra Daadi district, surface connectivity along Joram-Koloriang road, the lifeline of the people of Lower Subansiri, Kra Daadi and Kurung Kumey districts, has been disrupted after a portion of the said road was completely washed away near Tassar village due to incessant rain.

The District Administration in collaboration with TK Engineering & Consortium Pvt Ltd has made a temporary diversion for plying of light vehicles. However, the road is not yet conducive for plying of heavy vehicles.Considering this, the District Administration appealed to the public to avoid travelling during heavy rainfall and temporarily restrict plying of heavy loaded vehicles till restoration work is completed.

Traffic movement along Hoj-Potin road was also disrupted following landslides at its various locations due to incessant rain. Massive landslides occurred at Kala Mitti point between Hoj and Potin stretch of Trans-Arunachal Highway and few other locations due to which hundreds of vehicles, including buses, private vehicles were stranded for hours together on Wednesday. Reportedly, few private vehicles got stuck in the mud and damaged by the sharp rocks and boulders. However, there was no report of any casualty. The road was partially restored later in the day for vehicular traffic.
