In a bid to preserve the environment, the Nyorch Village Welfare Committee in Arunachal Pradesh's Papum Pare district has put a blanket ban on hunting, all kinds of fishing, swimming, hiking, trekking, picnicking, and collection of forest resources, including bamboo, bamboo shoots and firewood, within the village’s jurisdiction with immediate effect.
The Nyorch committee added that violation of the ban would invite a penalty of Rs 50,000, besides handing over of the violator(s) to the police for initiating legal action.
It is to be mentioned that many indigenous communities of Arunachal Pradesh have been attempting to put a halt to illegal practices in their area. In February of this year, the Berung village appealed the general public of East Siang in general and Pasighat, in particular, to stop fishing by dynamite, electrocution and other destructive means of hunting.
