An earthquake measuring 5.9 on the Richter scale (as per the US Geological Service) jolted the North-Eastern states of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh at 1:45 AM on Wednesday.
As per reports, the quake originated 36-km from Aalo town in West Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh.
Although no damage was reported, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was concerned enough to call up Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal to inquire about the quake.
A tweet sent out from Sonowal's official handle read: "PM Shri Narendra Modi ji called and enquired about the tremor last night in the Northeast. Assured him of our safety and thanked him for his concern and affection for the region even amidst a busy schedule."
Tremors from the quake were felt in Dibrugarh, Dimapur, Nagaon, and Guwahati in Assam and Imphal in Manipur.
