Assamese filmmaker Dara Ahmed passes away at 72, CM Sarma condoles his demise

GUWAHATI: Noted Assamese filmmaker Dara Ahmed passed away this morning at a private hospital in Guwahati. He was 72.
The 72-year-old breathed his last at the Apollo Hospital in Guwahati.
Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, as well as former CM Sarbananda Sonowal, condoled the demise of the filmmaker.
"I am saddened by the demise of Dara Ahmed, the noted Assamese director. His demise created a void in the Assamese film industry. I pray for eternal peace to the departed soul and extend my deepest condolences to the bereaved family," CM Sarma tweeted in the Assamese language.
Former CM Sarbananda Sonowal also took to Twitter and wrote, "Deeply saddened by the demise of noted film director Dara Ahmed. He has enriched our film industry with several successful Assamese films. I extend my deepest condolences to the bereaved family and pray for eternal peace for the departed soul."
Dara Ahmed began his career in the Assamese film industry as an assistant director on BRajen Barua's film "Dr Bazbarua" (1969).
Dara Ahmed directed several Assamese films, including "Rikshawala," "Jakhini," "Urbashi," "Dhrubatora," "Pooja," and "Devi" (jointly with Sambhu Gupta).
