"Considerable Progress" Made in Naga Peace Talks: Union Minister G Kishan Reddy

Guwahati, November 20, 2019:

Tapir Gao, the Lok Sabha MP from Arunachal Pradesh, on Tuesday asked the Government about the Central Government's progress of the Framework Agreement with the NSCN (IM) at the Lok Sabha, and was assured by Union Minister G Kishan Reddy that "considerable progress" has been made in the same.

Gao asked a series of questions, which are: the progress regarding the ‘Framework Agreement’ signed on 3rd August 2015 with Naga NSCN (IM); the deadlocks or differences hindering the progress; whether the Government has agreed for socio-economic and cultural integrations of Nagas with other States of the North East; if so, whether the Government has consulted and taken approval from each State of the North East; and the status of NSCN (IM) demand for separate flag and constitutions for Nagas?

In response to Gao's questions, G Kishan Reddy, the Minister of State in the Ministry of Home Affairs said that "there has been considerable progress in the Naga peace talks", and added that almost all Naga Underground groups are engaged with the Government of

India in the peace process.

The Union Minister also reiterated the Centre's stand that "All stakeholders including the states of Assam, Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh will be duly consulted before any settlement is arrived at with the Naga groups and their concerns taken into consideration"
