15 leaders including- 12 MLAs, two ministers, state General Secretary resigned BJP after denial of tickets in the upcoming Arunachal assembly election and joined National People’s Party (NPP) on Tuesday.
Ahead of the general election, it’s a major jolt to the BJP party where mass resignation took place followed by the BJP’s decision not to grant tickets and also to the old BJP party members. State General Secretary Jarpum Gamlin, state Home Minister Kumar Waii and Tourism Minister Jarkar Gamlin and several other sitting legislators for the Assembly elections were also been denied tickets.
On the other hand, 15 leaders have joined NPP and are thereby NPP getting the advantage after the erosion in BJP party which is the major setback for the party ahead of Lok Sabha election 2019. While speaking to InsideNE BJP state president Tapir Gao stated, “After denying ticket to them, it is their wisdom to go to any political party, but I have asked the leaders to stay calm, but if they cross the limit, they are free to go wherever they want. Tickets were not denied for personal reasons.”
Adding to this, a senior NPP leader said that these members of the BJP met the NPP General Secretary Thomas Sangma on Tuesday and joined the NPP.
Meanwhile, the NPP has decided to field candidates in all the 25 Lok Sabha seats in the northeast in the ensuing Lok Sabha polls. The party has already released the candidate list for Meghalaya and is likely to release the list of candidates for other states in rest of the North Eastern states.
