NEW DELHI: DoNER Minister Dr.Jitendra Singh on Saturday said that there is progressive decline in COVID cases in all the Northeastern States except Meghalaya.

Meghalaya is the only exception which witnessed a spike in positivity rate due to the spread of the virus in a jail in Ri-bhoi district, said the Minister during a review meeting of the COVID situation in the Northeast.

The meeting was attended by Health Secretaries and senior officials of all the eight northeastern States.

The officials informed the Minister about the measures the states have been taking to combat the pandemic.

The DoNER Minister cautioned the states that decline in active cases must be followed with greater push on vaccination and strict observance of COVID protocols.

Taking note of the issues of vaccine supply in Nagaland and Manipur, Singh

directed the Union Health Ministry officials to address the same on an urgent basis.

He expressed concern over the fact that the region wasn't much affected during the first. He noted that states like Sikkim didn't even have a single case throughout the lockdown period. However, this time the region has been widely infected by the virus.

The positivity rate of the region has gone down from 3.96% on 30th June 2021 to 2.94% on 2 July 2021, the meeting revealed.
