ITANAGAR: Arunachal Pradesh chief minister Pema Khandu inaugurated a first of its kind school, Nyubu Nyvgam Yerko (NNY), at Rang village, East Kameng district.

 

Khandu described the occasion as historic, saying that the school would be the first of its kind in Arunachal Pradesh, and that it would go a long way towards promoting and preserving indigenous traditions, culture, and language.

“Dedicated to people of the state today the Nyubu Nyvgam Yerko (NNY) school at Rang village in East Kameng district. Modelled on ancient Gurukul system of education and first of its kind school in Arunachal, it will preserve and promote indigenous dialect, culture and traditions,” Khandu tweeted.

 

Khandu thanked Pai Dawe for donating the land for the Gurukul type school.

 

Khandu recommended that the institution be housed in traditional homes rather than concrete structures.

 

 

He urged indigenous leaders and elders in the community to come forward with ideas for how the DIA could help preserve culture and languages.

 

Khandu believes that institutionalising cultural education is a necessity of the hour, and that Nyubu Nyvgam Yerko is a good initiative.
