NEW DELHI: Arunachal Pradesh MP and former Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju on Thursday took charge as Minister of Law and Justice in the presence of senior officials of the Ministry.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said, “It is definitely a huge challenge and responsibility for me to function as the Minister for Law and Justice for this country. Fulfilling public expectations will be my priority and I will always try to keep transparency."
The Minister further added that he will always try to be approachable for the media so that the people can know what this ministry is doing and how we are performing.

Speaking about his law background, the Minister said, "Although I have a law degree I don't have much experience about the legal matters as I was never there in the profession. However, everything can be handled with proper guidance, proper understanding of the subjects and application of right mind".
Rijiju was serving as the Minister of State(I/C) for Youth Affairs and Sports starting from May 2019 till July 2021. He was the Minister of State of Minority Affairs before taking charge as the Sports Minister.
In 2004. Rijiju was elected to the 14th Lok Sabha from West Arunachal Pradesh constituency and later in the 16th Lok Sabha in 2014. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inducted him into the the Council of Ministers as a Minister of State in the Ministry of Home Affairs on May 26th, 2014.
Along with Rijiju, 4 more leaders from Northeast have been inducted into the Union cabinet.
Former Assam Chief Minister, Sarbananda Sonowal will oversee the Ministry of Ayush and Ministry of Shipping while Pratima Bhaumick from Tripura is now Minister of State in the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.
Manipur's Dr Rajkumar Ranjan Singh will take charge as the Minister of State in the External Affairs and Education. Lok Sabha member from Assam Rameswar Teli will take over as Minister of State for Labour and Employment.
