Itanagar, February 20, 2020:

Activists on Thursday welcomed Union Home Minister Amit Shah to Arunachal Pradesh with massive protests and slogans such as “Mota Bhai Go Back”, meaning “elder brother, go back.”

Many activists took to the streets and raised slogans against the Home Minister, who had arrived to take part in the 34th Statehood Day of Arunachal Pradesh.

The activists were clearly agitated with his arrival after massive protests against the implementation of the CAA in the country. Although the state is protected with Inner Line Permit, the citizens have stood in solidarity with Assam and neighboring states due to the threats of culture erosion posed by the CAA.

The activists were seen holding up placards to oppose the visit of the Minister, who is seen as the chief architect behind the amendment of the Citizenship Act or CAA. “Hitler bhai, Go back, go Back Amit Shah, Nahi Chahiye CAA (We don’t need CAA), Go back murderer of secularism, chronology sucks, etc. were the slogans raised on the first visit of Amit Shah to the Northeast after the Anti-CAA protests.

On the contrary, Amit Shah assured the people of Arunachal Pradesh that Article 371, which grants some temporary, transition and special provisions to particular states, will not be “touched”.

“After the abrogation of Article 370, a lot of rumors were spread that Article 371, too, would be abrogated. Today, on the Statehood day of Arunachal Pradesh, I want to tell the people of Northeast that Article 371 would not be touched,” he said while addressing the 34th Statehood Day Function of Arunachal Pradesh on Thursday.

Meanwhile, neighboring country China also opposed the visit of the BJP leader to disputed Arunachal that it considers as its southern part.
