GUWAHATI: In a high-level review meeting on COVID-19 vaccination chaired by Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan with the North East and the Hill States and UTs, it was revealed that in five Northeastern states' COVID-19 vaccination for the age group of 60+ is unsatisfactory.
States of Assam, Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland and Meghalaya are in this category.
These five states were advised to focus on the 60+ age group more and administer the second dose to eligible ones the soonest possible saturating the 18+ age group (1st dose).

"The vulnerability of this age group to COVID-19 makes this exercise of prime importance," said Bhushan in a statement.
The other states/UTs which have taken part in this high-level review meeting are Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Sikkim, Tripura and Uttarakhand.
"The attention of the States was brought to the fact that the administration of the first dose has progressively outpaced the administration of second dose. It was suggested that States earmark doses, earmark days and target the completion of the exercise for these beneficiaries," the statement read further.
