A fierce gun battle has been reported from Phinbiro, located in Arunachal’s Changlang district, reportedly between members of the Nationalist Socialist Council of Nagalim's Khaplang faction (NSCN-K) and the Indian armed forces.

According to reports, army personnel had arrived in the Assam-Arunachal border area and soon after that, a gunfight was reported. Some locals said that the gunfight was between troops of Army and NSCN(K). However, there is no concrete evidence yet.
Reports of gun fights between the Indian army and the NSCN (K) are not all that uncommon in the Changlang area. Recently, the Indian armed forces gunned down a hardcore NSCN (R) insurgent after a firefight on November 30 in general area Shallang of Changlang district of Arunachal Pradesh.

During the search operations, the troops came under fire from the cadres and in retaliatory fire, one insurgent was killed who later was identified as Self Styled Major Akham Chang, the operational commander of NSCN (R) in Changlang district.
