The National Socialist Council of Nagaland-Khaplang-Yung Aung (NSCN-K-YA) Area commander of Longding region was apprehended by troops of the Indian Army during a surgical operation in Langkhao.
As per a press release, the PIB (Defence Wing), based on specific information, Indian Army, during the early hours on Friday (13 September), initiated a search operation in Longkhao.
During the operation, the search team apprehended two suspected insurgents. They were identified as Self-Styled Maj Talai Wangsu and Self Styled Cpl Alau Wangnaw of Nagaland-Khaplang-Yung Aung.

The PIB further said Indian Army and Assam Rifles had intensified the operation against insurgent groups on reliable reports of extortion threats and intimidation of locals.
The release further said that a large quantity of ammunition and warlike stores, including weapons, were also recovered from the apprehended persons.
The apprehended Self Styled Major has been alleged to be in-charge of illegal tax collection and extortion in Tangsa-Wancho region of Longding and parts of Tirap District. He was on the radar of the security forces for over the past 12 months.

The release added that he is also a close aide of the SS Col Botai Wangsu of NSCN K-YA outfit. The apprehension of these cadres is said to be a big blow to the outfit and has been greatly welcomed by the locals. The apprehended are being handed over to Police.
