Three killed, three missing in Itanagar flood, landslides

Itanagar (Arunachal), September 14, 2018:

At least three people died and as many others reported missing following flood and landslides in two areas of Arunachal Pradesh capital Itanagar on Friday.

Incessant rains for the last couple of days had triggered flood and landslides in Modirijo and Donyi-polo areas, the sites of Friday’s incidents.

According to reports, 12 houses were fully washed away while eight others were damaged partially in Modirijo. Likewise, five houses were fully damaged and four partially damaged in Donyi Polo area.

Chief Minister Pema Khandu expressed sorrow over the loss of lives. Conveying his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family members, he said the state and its people were with them during this trying time. He announced immediate release of ex-gratia payment of Rs.4 lakh each to the next of kin of the deceased.

Assuring all possible support from the state government, Khandu directed the district administration and the disaster management department to continuously monitor the situation. He further directed the authorities to conduct proper loss assessment and submit the report to the government at the earliest.
