Tirong Aboh’s wife, Chakat Aboh has filed her nomination on Monday for the ensuing bye polls in Arunachal Pradesh.
The bye-poll was necessitated after Aboh, a sitting MLA of National People’s Party (NPP) was shot dead by suspected NSCN militants at Tirap district.
The party leaders, including Chief Minister Pema Khandu, decided to unanimously support Aboh’s widow. She will now contest as an independent candidate from 56 Khonsa West assembly constituency of Arunachal Pradesh in the upcoming bye-election.

The decision to support Chakat Aboh was taken at a press conference that was attended by leaders of the five major political parties – Congress President Nabam Tuki, BJP president Tapir Gao, General Secretary NPP Mutchu Mithi, President People’s Party of Arunachal Kameng Ringu and President Janata Dal-United Ruhi Tagung. All the five leaders voiced their support for the independent candidate for the 56-Khonsa West Constituency.

Eleven people, including sitting MLA Tirong Aboh and his son, were killed by militants in May this year, ahead of election results. Later, the results were in favor of Tirong Aboh. He had won the election by a large margin of votes.
