Khonsa, June 1, 2019:

A team of the Arunachal Pradesh Women’s Welfare Society (APWWS), led by its president Dipti Bengia Tadar, visited Tirap headquarters Khonsa yesterday and met the families of MLA Tirong Aboh and others who lost their lives in the 21 May massacre in the Bogapani area of Arunachal Pradesh.

Offering condolences to the bereaved families, the APWWS team said the entire state was mourning because of the brutal murder of 11 people, including the sitting MLA.

The APWWS members also promised the families that they would take up their grievances with the government.

The team, which included Kani Nada Maling and Hage Onyo, also visited Hunkan village, and met the family of one of the drivers who was also killed in the massacre.

The family members requested the APWWS to place their grievances before the competent authorities. They said all the bread-earners of the families were killed in the massacre, throwing the future of the bereaved families into uncertainty.

The attack took place at Bogapani village of Tirap district in Arunachal Pradesh. It may be mentioned that Aboh was seeking re-election from Khonsa West Assembly seat on an NPP ticket. After the results were announced, it came to light that Aboh, who was contesting from Khonsa West, had actually won the election.

Sources said that the MLA and his family were travelling in an SUV from Upper Assam’s Dibrugarh district to Khonsa when the incident took place. According to reports, Aboh and his younger son died on the spot.

It may be mentioned that the MLA had earlier been threatened by separatist group Nationalist Socialist Council of Nagalim (Isaak Muivah) (NSCN-IM).
