The capital city of Itanagar has inaugurated two new multi-level parking lots, operational from today. Constructed at a cost of 29.5 crores, these parking facilities offer free parking for up to six months.
One of the parking lots is at the Ess sector near the civil Secretariat, and the other is at Ganga inside the APST bus terminal.
Er Gyamar Tachung, the Executive Engineer of the Urban Development department, announced that these parking projects can accommodate 160 vehicles at a time.
These projects, initiated in 2019 and completed in 2024, will be under a trial run by the Urban Development Department for six months.

After this period, a decision will be made on whether to outsource the operation or keep it within the department.
The total cost of each project is 14 crores and 71 lakhs, which includes the cost of three parking lifts for cars and one passenger lift in each lot.
Both premises are equipped with fire extinguisher systems and power generators. An annual maintenance contract for the hydraulic lift machines will be implemented after government approval.
The police department has urged residents to utilise these parking lots to reduce traffic congestion on highways.
SP Traffic Itanagar Sepraj Perme praised these parking projects, calling them a gift from the state government to the smart people of the smart city of Itanagar.
He expressed hope that these new facilities will help regulate parking chaos in the city's congested markets.
