A colossal landslide wreaked havoc in Rilo in Lepa Rada district, as relentless torrential rains lashed the area for two consecutive days. This disaster has caused severe disruption, with hundreds of vehicles, including trucks laden with vital commodities and passenger vehicles from Tezpur, Lakhimpur, Dhemaji, and Itanagar, caught in the gridlock caused by the landslide.
In an effort to alleviate the chaos, the Joint Commissioner of Police (JCP) took charge, collaborating with the National Highways Construction Agency. After a laborious three-hour operation, one of the vehicle was retrieved from the muddy grip of the hillside. While the stranded vehicles were given passage after the road was cleared, traffic flow remains erratic, impeding seamless movement along the route.
Amid the turmoil, a passenger shared his ordeal, "We were en route to the hospital, but the roads were abruptly shut due to a road blockade. This wasn't the first encounter with a blockade either. The word is that an accident transpired, rendering the thoroughfare an expanse of muddied turmoil. The clock ticks, and we've been waiting for over two hours now, as murmurs spread that this predicament might persist for a couple more hours."
