Nabam Vivek, the MLA from the 14th Doimukh constituency, has been unanimously elected as the new president of the People’s Party of Arunachal (PPA). The announcement was made during the party's People’s Assembly in Itanagar, attended by prominent PPA leaders and workers.
Addressing party members after his election, Vivek highlighted the historic legacy of the PPA, founded in 1977 by visionary leaders Late Bakin Pertin and Late Tomo Riba. He expressed his commitment to upholding the party's core principles of promoting development, safeguarding tribal culture, and advocating for the welfare of Arunachal's people.
“This is a great opportunity to lead the state’s oldest regional party. Our vision remains focused on preserving the customs, faith, and livelihoods of our tribal communities, while championing sustainable development and wildlife conservation,” Vivek stated.
The PPA, with two MLAs in the 60-member Arunachal Assembly, is a partner in the North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA). Vivek assured issue-based support to the state government’s positive initiatives while remaining vocal against any injustices or challenges faced by the tribal populace.
Vivek also announced plans to consult key decision-makers to strengthen the party’s constitution and foster integrity and teamwork within the organization. Under his leadership, the PPA aims to expand its influence and navigate Arunachal's evolving political landscape with a renewed focus on tribal welfare and environmental conservation.
