17 Kilos of Marijuana Seized in Assam's Cachar

Guwahati, February 18, 2020:

A joint team of security personnel on Tuesday seized seventeen kilos of ganja (marijuana) in Jirighat that falls under Cachar district of Assam.

The recovery was made after a raid was conducted based on a secret information yesterday on February 17. The SDPO of Lakhipur along with the O/C of Joypur and Assam Rifles personnel conducted the raid.

During the raid that was conducted at the Diglangmukh Punjee (Natun Basti) under Jirighat Police Station, one drug peddler has been nabbed. The peddler has been identified as Fakrul Hussain Mazumder (23), a resident of Makhannagar under Jirighat in Cachar district.

17 kilos of ganja was seized from his possession and the suspect was taken to Jirighat Police Station in Cachar for a thorough interrogation. A case vide Jirighat Police Station Case No.9/2020 U/S-20(b) NDPS Act has been registered in connection with this.

It may be mentioned here that the drug menace has been on the rise in Assam since the past few months. Police have been keeping an eye on suspects to curb the same.
