Guwahati, June 21, 2019:

The Ministry of Health & Family Welfare on Friday increased the total number of MBBS seats in 6 medical colleges of Assam.

The numbers of seats have been increased to 900 which were earlier 726 seats in 6 medical colleges.

The Ministry has sanctioned 174 additional MBBS seats under Economically Weaker Section (EWS) quota.

The Ministry on Friday issued a notification accepting the proposal of the Medical Council of India (MCI). It has directed the counseling authorities for filling up the MBBS seats under EWS quota as per rules in forthcoming academic ear 2019-20.

Seats have been also increased other States and Union Territories.

Meanwhile, the Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted, “Will address aspirations of many who wish to pursue medicine.”
