3.26 per cent turnout till 9 am in phase III of Assam polling

GUWAHATI: The 40 constituencies of Assam that has gone to polls since 7 am in the morning have registered 3.26 per cent turnout till 9 am.

Among the data available so far, Palashbari in Kamrup district as recorded the highest turnout of 19 per cent and Barpeta has tallied 1.11 per cent to be the lowest so far.

In the four constituencies of Kamrup (Metro), Jalukbari has recorded 13 per cent, followed by Dispur with 12 per cent, while Gauhati East and Gauhati West have registered 11 per cent each.

Polling for the final phase of elections got under way at 7 am in 11,401 polling stations, including 1814 auxilaries.

A total of 337 candidates, including 25 women, are in the fray in the 40 constituencies in 16 election districts.

A total of 79,19,641 voters, including 40,11,539 males, 39,07,963 females and 139 transgenders, will exercise their franchise. The voters also include two overseas, 26,460 service voters and 13,389 senior citizens postal voters.

Among the 40 constituencies, Dispur has the highest number of voters – 4,11,636 – and Dharmapur has the lowest of 1,41,592.
