GUWAHATI: Even as campaigning has intensified in poll-bound Assam with the state going for first phase of voting on March 27, political heavyweights are paying multiple visits as they are eyeing the state along with other states going for polls in March and April this year. All political parties are leaving no stone unturned to ensure people vote in their favour.
Defence Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Rajnath Singh will visit Assam on March 23 to address two public meetings in the state.
Singh is scheduled to attend his first public meeting at 12.15 pm in Lumding for BJP candidate from the constituency Sibu Mishra. He will attend another public meeting at 1.45 pm at Swahid Field in Hojai for BJP candidate from the constituency Ramkrishna Ghosh. Singh will fly back to New Delhi at 3.45 pm from Guwahati airport the same day.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and BJP leader Yogi Adityanath will visit the state on the same day and he is scheduled to attend three public meetings. Yogi Adityanath will attend his first public meeting of the day at 11 am at Jaipur Dev Block Field in Udarbond for BJP candidate from the constituency Mihir Kanti Shome.
He will then attend his second public meeting at 12.15 pm at the India Club in Silchar for BJP candidate from the constituency Dipyan Chakraborty. He will attend his last public meeting of his visit at 2 pm at Haticherra Tea Estate Garden Playground for BJP candidate from the constituency Amlendu Das. He will finally leave for Lucknow in a special filght from Silchar airport at 4 pm.

Union Road Transport & Highway minister and BJP leader Nitin Gadkari will visit Assam on March 26 where he is likely to attend two public meetings during his one day visit. He will address his public meeting at 11:45 am at Chamata HS School Field, Dharmapur for BJP candidate from the constituency Chandra Mohan Patowary. Gadkari will attend another public meeting at 1.40 pm at Kachokana HS School Field at Golakganj for BJP candidate from the constituency Ashwani Roy Sarkar. He will then address the media at 3.25 pm at the BJP Media Centre in Guwahati and finally return to New Delhi from Guwahati airport.
Elections to the 126-member Assam Assembly will be held in three phases on March 27, April 1 and April 6. The BJP is fighting the polls with its alliance partners Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL).
