3 members of regional organization arrested on extortion charges in Assam's Dibrugarh

DIBRUGARH: Dibrugarh Police on September 14h arrested three members of a regional organization -- Anusuchita Jati Sangrami Yuva Parishad, Axom -- who were allegedly involved in extortion.

The Additional Superintendent of Police, Dibrugarh, Padmanabh Baruah informed the media that three members of the organization namely Biswajit Das, Rohan Das, and Abinash Das demanded ₹10000 as extortion from a Jewellery shop of New Market, Dibrugarh on November 11 last.

"They issued a money receipt against the collection of ₹4000 from the shopkeeper. Based on the complaint filed by the owner of the shop, a case has been registered bearing Dibrugarh Police Station case no. 1996/2020 u/s 448/384/34 IPC," he said.

Talking to Inside Northeast, Dibrugarh Police Superintendent Thube Prateek Vijay Kumar said, "Three members of the regional organization were arrested by a team of Dibrugarh police. They were basically extricating money by force. Further investigations are on."
