Three Nigerian nationals, including a woman, were arrested by the Assam police in Karimganj district on Sunday night.
The Nigerians were arrested after it was found that they were carrying foreign currencies and fake documents with them. The three Nigerian nationals were reportedly travelling from Bangladesh to Assam via Tripura, when they landed in the police's net.
According to reports, the Nigerians confessed to being footballers upon being interrogated by the police. It was learnt from reports that these Nigerians have been seen in and around Tripura in the last few months. The Nigerians are in police custody and investigation is underway.
In a similar incident, four Nigerian nationals were arrested on Saturday from Agartala rail station in Tripura by Government Railway Police staff during a routine search.

The GRP officials said that they seized Agartala-Guwahati tickets from their possession.
The detainees have been identified as: Okafor Obiorah Michel (23), Igbanugo Odikpo Donatus (28), Madubuku Onyedika Chukwu Stanley (29) and Piterson Wilson (27).
It has come to be known that they are all footballers and had come to Bangladesh to play football. They were headed to Guwahati to play football for a local club, when they were arrested.
