KARIMGANJ: A total of 34 inmates of Karimganj district jail have tested positive for COVID-19.
Of these, 24 inmates were found to be COVID-19 positive during a Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) yesterday.
Earlier, six others had tested COVID-19 positive.
All the infected inmates are currently undergoing treatment at the jail.
Other 41 inmates of the jail have been kept in separate cells, away from the infected inmates.
Meanwhile, Assam’s COVID-19 tally went up to 2,83,313 yesterday, as the state reported this year’s highest single-day spike of 5,626 fresh cases.
On the other hand, 47 new fatalities pushed the state’s coronavirus death toll to 1,578.
