Yet another armed militant organization has reared its head in the North-Eastern region of India, which is generally perceived to be a ‘disturbed region’ by academic pundits. The latest armed organization is called the ‘Dimasa National Liberation Army’. The group has also called a 36-hours bandh in Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao districts from 5 pm on 17 April onwards in a statement issued on April 15.

Ringsmai Dimasa, the Information and Publicity Secretary of the Dimasa Peoples’ Supreme Council/ Dimasa National Liberation Army Dimasa released a statement. It reads: “With revolutionary greetings and warm wishes, I the undersigned on behalf of the organization do hereby would like to inform you all that the Dimasa Tribe of the India unitedly formed an Armed Revolutionary under the name and style of ‘Dimasa National Liberation Army’ (DNLA).”
The organization sets its goals as follows: “To develop a sense of brotherhood among the Dimasa and also to rebuild the trust and faith among the Dimasa society for regaining the Dimasa kingdom.” The organization has also established a ‘government in exile’ called ‘Dimasa People’s Supreme Council which will interact with formal and non-formal media.
“The general assembly held at deep forest has hoped to revamp our national struggle and declare to fight for the liberation of sovereign, independent Dimasa nation with strengthening our policy. We all are determined to our culture, language, and historical right”, read the communique.
It may be mentioned that Dima Hasao and Karbi Anglong will head to the polls on April 18 as the two autonomous districts constitute the Autonomous Council Constituency.
