Agartala, March 17, 2020:

In a significant development for the Agartala city dwellers, the Agartala smart city mission had already installed 4 out of 6 smart Wi-Fi poles across the city in order to meet the internet needs of people on the go who need access to services. The intelligent poles which will be installed in six selected spots of the city will facilitate someone to access internet for at least 30 minutes a day from each pole. Meanwhile, a highly-placed source has informed Inside Northeast that 4 of the poles have already been constructed. Work on the rest of the poles is going on, the source further informed.

"The intelligent Wi-Fi poles have been designed in such a way that a person can access the internet for upto 30 minutes from one pole. Once the 30 minutes time is up, that particular user IP will be blocked for the day. However, he can access internet from the other intelligent pole”, said a highly placed source in the Agartala Smart city mission.

The Wi-Fi polls, sources maintained, will not only provide internet, but also act as a multitasking unit. The LED screen attached to the pole will tell people about the weather forecast, rainfall, locations and other necessary information in detail, our source said.

"Already 4 of these intelligent poles have already been installed in several parts of the state including MBB college, Ujjyanta Palace and few places where the footfall of city dwellers is  the most”, added the source.

Meanwhile, the locals of Agartala have expressed joy at this move and expressed joy at the prospects that will be brought forth by developing such infrastructure in the city. "The intelligent poles and the smart kiosks will be connected with the Integrated Command and Control Center. In an emergency, the city dwellers of the travellers who have less idea about the place can inform the line departments and seek help. The digitized gadgets will raise an alarm in the command and control system and local police will be informed about the matter, at the earliest", Mrinal Banik, a city based scribe, informed Inside Northeast.

Apart from this, in select 26 locations, digital information kiosks will also be installed. In some of the places like Akhaura Integrated Check post, Agartala Municipal Corporation Office and MBB Airport Agartala, the system has already been installed.

"All the important government websites will be incorporated in the smart kiosk so that any one who does not have any idea can access them. This initiative has been specially taken in view of the increasing number of tourist inflow to the state. The tourists can easily get information about the map, the online taxi services and other hospitality services of the government”, said the source.
