60-Year-Old accused of Raping Minor in Margherita

MARGHERITA: An elderly man in his 60's allegedly raped a differently-abled girl in Namdang Bashbari of Tinsukia's Margherita. 

The incident reportedly took place on Saturday afternoon. The victim's father had taken her to the house of a person identified as Dilip Debnath at Namdang so that he (Dilip) could take care of her as the father was going to the Margherita Hospital for some work.

However, things did not turn the way as the father had imagined and Dilip Debnath had then forcefully taken the minor to his bedroom and then he allegedly assaulted her sexually.

Dilip following the incident had also threatened the girl's parents to not speak about the incident or else he would kill them.

On hearing this, the residents of Namdang Bashbari gathered at the accused's house and immediately called the police. 

The accused was picked up from his house after the locals demanded his arrest and strict actions against him.

A case has been registered at Margherita Police Station under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012 

(POCSO). The accused shall be sent to judicial custody on Monday. 

The victim's parents along with the locals demanded capital punishment for the accused Dilip Debnath.
