The Assam Police personnel on Monday arrested 7 youths for smuggling cannabis in BTAD’s Chirang. They were arrested from Chapoguri village in Chirang district.
The Police revealed that they were carrying about 100 kilos of cannabis. The youths were travelling from Barama in Baksa district to Chirang, when they were ensnared by the police.
The bikes they were travelling on, bearing registration no.s AS-19-H-4497, AS-19-F-2396, AS-01-DJ-9489, were also seized from the youths.
Further investigation is on.
Cannabis, which is smoked or consumed, generally illegally, as a psychoactive (mind-altering) drug, is being widely used in Assam (and other parts of the Northeast) as a recreational drugs, especially among the youth.
