A group of 70 organizations in Assam on Wednesday appealed the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) and Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) to form a political party to oust the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led government from power in 2021.

Naba Moran, member of the Moran Chatra Parishad on Wednesday sent a letter to the AASU and AJYCP leadership to form a political party and contest the ensuing 2021 state assembly elections to keep communal parties like the BJP, congress and All India United Democratic Front at bay from coming to power.

The letter was signed by representatives of all the 70 regional organizations. The 70 organizations led by Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) also include Tai Ahom Students' Union and the Moran Students' Union. The 70 organizations appealed the AASU and AJYCP leadership to form a political party and help scrapping the controversial Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019 by coming into power.

It may be mentioned that the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) and Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) on Tuesday stated that they are set to form new political party within a week. AASU president Dipanka Kumar Nath said that if everything goes well then the new political party will be floated in next seven days. The AASU and AJYCP formed an 18-member ‘Assam Advisory Committee’ to suggest on their political moves.

Earlier, sources claimed that the political party to be launched by the AASU and AJYCP is likely to contest 80-100 seats in the assembly elections in Assam due early next year. Though the AASU and AJYCP will not forge any pre-poll alliance with the Congress or be part of its proposed ”Grand Alliance”, it is open for an understanding with the Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS).

On the other hand, the Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) too has announced that it will float a regional political party soon. KMSS president Vasco D Saikia recently said that the new party would be launched by October this year and it will contest the assembly electi Saikia said that all preparations have been made to float the party by October under the able leadership of its chief advisor Akhil Gogoi who is lodged in Guwahati central jail for the last eight months. Saikia further added that Akhil Gogoi would be the chief ministerial candidate of the party. He claimed that the party would be a uncompromising and secular one and it will protect the interests of the indigenous people of the state.ons to be held next year.

Election to the 126-member Assam assembly is likely to be held in March-April next year. The 2016 elections gave a fractured mandate and no party has an absolute majority in the current House.
