72nd Republic Day celebrated in Guwahati; Governor Mukhi unfurls Tricolour

GUWAHATI: The celebrations of the 72nd Republic Day have begun in Guwahati after Assam Governor Jagdish Mukhi hoisted the national flag in the Khanapara field.

During the celebration, Governor Mukhi said, “I wish everyone a Happy Republic Day. I offer my salutations to the freedom fighters of our nation for their spirited endeavour to free our country from the shackles of foreign dominion. I pay my sincere homage to the founding fathers and the farmers of our Constitution and the great leaders who shaped our destiny. I pay my respects to the armed forces, paramilitary forces, and police forces for protecting us and sacrificing their lives for us,” the governor said.

“Last year was challenging for all of us due to the ongoing pandemic. The government’s timely healthcare management and necessary steps taken in this regard, we have been successful in containing the pandemic here,” adding, “Let us all stand united and work for each other to combat the pandemic”.

Meanwhile Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal and health, finance, education minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma conveyed their greetings and best wishes to the people of the state on the occasion of 72nd Republic Day.

Greetings to all citizens. On this auspicious day, let us pledge to together realise the dreams of an aspirant India and establish our great nation as the Bishwaguru,” the chief minister tweeted.

“#गणतंत्र_दिवस की हार्दिक शुभकामनाएं। #HappyRepublicDay ~ On this special day, let’s rededicate ourselves to the ideals of justice, freedom and equal rights for all, as we salute all those great men & women who gave us our Constitution,” Himanta Biswa tweeted.
