DHUBRI: The 87th birth anniversary of Padmashree Pratima Barua Pandey, an emperor of Goalparia folk songs has been observed in her home district Dhubri in Assam today.

Padmashree Pratima Barua Pandey has been roped in different parts of the state to establish the Goalparia folk songs in the world court.

A cultural group called Nrityangan in Dhubri paid homage to the legendary artist on her birthday anniversary and organized a cultural programme in ritual.

Prabir Kumar Barua, brother of Pratima Barua Pandey and members of the Gauripur royal family, were present at the programme.

At the meeting, Prabir Kumar Barua demanded that the construction of Dhubri-Phulbari bridge should be named after the legendary Padmashree Pratima Barua Pandey.

Another prominent speaker at the meeting, Pratima Neogi, North East President of The Border Security Forum, demanded the government to name the Dhubri-Phulbari bridge in Lower-Assam after Padmashree Pratima Barua Pandey just as the Dhola Sadia Bridge in Upper-Assam is named after Xudha kontho Dr Bhupen Hazarika.
