Guwahati, October 29, 2019:

All Assam Minority Students’s Union (AAMSU) advisor Azizur Rahman on Tuesday took a jab at All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) chief Badaruddin Ajmal over his statement on the state government’s two-child policy.

Addressing the media, AAMSU advisor Azizur Rahman said that the minority body agrees with the state government’s move of curbing population through its two-child policy. Taking a swipe at Ajmal, Azizur said, “There are certain politicians who are trying to influence the uneducated people in the name of religion.”

Badaruddin Ajmal has recently alleged that the Assam Government’s rule to stop people with two children or more from having Government jobs is meant to stop Muslims from having jobs.

Assam Government took this decision because of the pressure on land and resources in Assam. Providing land to the landless was also one of the current Government’s pre-election promises.

Azizur added, “The government should also work on the development of socio- economic conditions apart from taking initiatives to curb overpopulation in the state Lack of education is the key to all problems in the society, so the government must work in educating the people in backward areas like char chapori, hill districts, etc.”

“Once the people are educated, they will automatically realize the essence of limiting the population growth,” Azizur added.

Apart from this, the AAMSU turned down heavily on the state government and asked to classify the term “Khilanjia” (indigenous) which they have used on its policy to provide land to the landless.

He added that the government is creating a rift among the Assamese community by dividing it into “Khilanjia Axomiya”, “Khilanjia Janajati”, and other “Khilanjia Assamese”.

He appealed to the government to classify the term as the “High Level Committee” will point down laws for the implementation of Clause 6 of Assam Accord based on its definition.
