The All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) and Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) on Friday declared that their newly formed Political party’s name will be announced on or before September 15.

On the other hand, AASU shared the names of the convenors of the party’s “Assam Advisory Committee." Krishna Gopal Bhattacharjya and Basanta Deka have been appointed as convenor of the party. Both of them will take all the decisions on behalf of the party.

Earlier, AASU president Dipanka Kumar Nath said that if everything goes well then the new political party will be floated in next seven days. The AASU and AJYCP formed an 18-member ‘Assam Advisory Committee’ to suggest on their political moves.

Sources claimed that the political party to be launched by the AASU and AJYCP is likely to contest 80-100 seats in the assembly elections in Assam due early next year. Though the AASU and AJYCP will not forge any pre-poll alliance with the Congress or be part of its proposed ”Grand Alliance”, it is open for an understanding with the Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS).

The election to the 126-member Assam assembly is likely to be held in March-April next year. The 2016 elections gave a fractured mandate and no party has an absolute majority in the current House.
