AASU chief Samujjal Bhattacharya applauds media for standing with people against CAB

Guwahati, February 9, 2019:

The All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) on Saturday addressed the media about the recent incident of the BJP government locking the AASU protestors in their office itself to prevent them from protesting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit in the state.

Lauding the media over its stand for the people and coverage of the protests carried out by different organizations against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016, AASU Chief Advisor,

Samujjal Bhattachraya said, “Today, PM Modi has targeted the media of Assam and criticized its authentic projection of the protest that people are carrying out against the Bill. They are unable to accept it and so, they have targeted the media. We expect the same stand and guidance from the media in the upcoming days as it has done since the past.”

He added, “Development was what we always asked for and these are our born rights. According to the conditions of the Assam Accord, we demanded AIIMS, Indian Institute of Management, Indian Institute of Science Education Research, and others as well. The development they are saying to provide the people, these are our basic rights. He did not speak about any of the issues in the national level about the flood and erosion that has destroyed the economic development of the state. They did not even amend the Assam Accord till date despite 36 years of struggles by the people.”
