Speaking to Inside Northeast, Lurin said, "Look, we have the Accord...so it is clear cut that the people of Assam will never settle for this. If they do bring in 4-5 lakh migrants, they will have to be settled on Assamese soil, displacing the indigene in the process. However, we believe the number of migrants will be much higher. The PM talks of us misleading the people...how are we doing that?"
The AASU leader contended that Assam, due to the signing of the Accord, must be exempted from the CAA. "Assam and Tripura are special cases....even CJI Bobde has admitted that Assam's case is different, and thus, we must be exempted.
