Dibrugarh, February 20, 2020:

Citizenship Amendment Act or CAA has become the bone of contention between the Assam Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders and the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) supporters

In a latest protest against the amended Act, the AASU supporters of Dibrugarh’s Chabua wing were preparing to burn the effigies of BJP leaders ahead of Assam BJP State President Ranjeet Dass’ arrival.

As soon as Dass’ convoy arrived, the AASU supporters waved black flags at the convoy. The regular display of black flags by AASU supporters was met with a different sight today. A clash broke out between AASU supporters and BJP workers in Dibrugarh’s Chabua on Thursday.

When the security forces were trying to tackle the situation, the vehicles of MLA Binod Hazarika’s convoy attempted to run over the AASU agitators. Before the clash, Hazarika was quoted, “Thousands of bikes have turned up to welcome the BJP leaders and people are happy to host them.”

However, the clash took no time in turning ugly and an AASU member sustained injuries. He has been rushed to the hospital.
