NEW DELHI: The BJP-led alliance is expected to retain power in Dispur with at least 72 seats, the ABP C-Voter Assam Elections 2021 Opinion Poll survey has predicted.

According to the survey, the saffron party’s alliance with Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and United People’s Party-Liberal (UPPL) is likely to poll 43.8 per cent vote share.

The survey results were announced yesterday a day after the Election Commission of India (ECI) on Friday announced the dates for assembly elections in Assam.

ABP News and C-Voter conducted the opinion poll to predict the voter's mood in the state.

The survey results projected Congress-led seven-party alliance to stand second with 47 seats in the 126-member house and 41.4 per cent vote share. The alliance’s Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) is predicted to win only four seats with 1.1 per cent vote share and the other five parties, including the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF), to win only three and 13.7 per cent vote share.

In 2016, the BJP-lead NDA alliance had won 74 seats with a 41.9 per cent vote share. The Congress-led alliance had got 26 seats with 31 per cent votes.

The ECI has announced Assam assembly polls in three phases on March 27, April 1 and April 6. Counting of votes and result will be announced on May 2.

On the other hand, West Bengal is predicted to slip once again through the fingers of BJP with the opinion poll suggesting that the Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress (TMC) will return to power in West Bengal and is likely to bag somewhere between 148 to 164 seats in the 294-member assembly.

TMC, however, will face a tough competition from the BJP which is expected to increase its tally in the state assembly by winning somewhere close to 92-108 seats. The saffron party managed to win only three seats in West Bengal in the 2016 polls.

The Congress which is contesting West Bengal assembly polls in alliance with Left parties, is expected to win 31-39 seats in the state. In 2016, the alliance had bagged 76 seats in the state.

The opinion poll shows Trinamool Congress will manage to secure close to 43 per cent vote share in West Bengal while the BJP may get close to 38 per cent votes. Congress-Left parties alliance fails to deter TMC and BJP's bull run and might get restricted with mere 13 per cent votes in the states. Other parties and independent candidates may get close to six per cent vote share.
