The All Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU) has announced to undergo democratic protest to mark their protest against the district administration for not taking action against a brutal attack that took place on its volunteers during the period of the election even after lodging an FIR against them.
The ABSU has demanded immediate action against the culprits involved in the attack.
On April 23, 2019, at around 5 pm an attack took place where ABSU volunteers were grievously injured and three vehicles were damaged by the attackers. When these supporters of UG Brahma candidate of UPPL were on their way to fetch the polling agents deputed at Shantinagar.
In an official release, the KDC ABSU stated, “The first attack took place near Durga Das LP School at Shantinagar where two ABSU volunteers were attacked namely Swmaochat Mushahary who was hit at his leg with a wooden stick. At the same place Drubajit Brahma was also beaten up by three to four attackers in this he received in this he received grievous injuries on his knee, elbow, hands, shoulder, and back. He was later treated at RNB Civil Hospital.”
“The attackers as identified by Swmaochat and Drubajit were the BPF volunteers who were armed with weapons and bamboo sticks, their names are Bilifang Narzary alias Barkang and Udlla, Anthony Basumatary, Dansling Mushahary, Kabiranjan Brahma (Ex-BLT member), and Swgwmsath Basumatary (president Bodoland Students’ Union) and Julius Basumatary alias Bappi. There are some more accompanies inside the vehicles they were travelling in Innova, Scorpio, Bolero and i20,” it added.
It further stated, “Another attack was made at the Subash Palli Road heading from JD Road towards Shantinagar near DN Himatsingka High School. In this attack, two persons received injuries, i.e. Kwrwmdao Mushahary was hit on his back while trying to flee. But the other person Ratan Basuymatary was blatantly attacked on his head and injuring him grievously. He was also taken to RNB Civil Hospital later on due to grieve injuries he was rushed to GNRC Hospital at Guwahati”.
