DIBRUGARH: The Assam health department has announced free treatment for a 30-year-old woman hailing from Dibrugarh who was attacked with acid on Valentine's Day.
Pijush Hazarika, Assam's Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, who visited the Assam Medical College & Hospital, Dibrugarh (AMCH) today to take stock of the victim's health, said that the she will the government will bear the cost of her treatment. "If further treatment is required, I will personally help her", Hazarika assured.

Sharing the information on Twitter, Minister Hazarika wrote, “Today I visited acid attack victim of Dibrugarh in Assam Medical College. She will be provided free of cost treatment and if further treatment is required I have promised to personally help the victim.”
The 30-year-old was attacked with acid on Valentine’s day near Mirzabaag under Amolapatty Police outpost in Dibrugarh town when she was returning from duty at the Sohum Shoppe.
She sustained severe injuries and has been admitted to the AMCH in Dibrugarh.
Dibrugarh Police later arrested the accused Buddhadev Das (50), who is a resident of Shantipara in Dibrugarh on February 15.
According to reports, the accused threw acid on the victim as she had rejected his proposal.
